Christian Education

From the desk of the Executive Director
Rev. Thomas Marris, Sr.

Greetings to the Churches of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, Inc.:

I greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My deep appreciation to my friend and brother, Dr; Isiac Jackson, President of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, Inc., for allowing me to serve in this capacity.

Continually, Reverend Reginald Buckley serves as Dean of the Congress and Dr. Juanita Taylor serves as the State Director under the watchful eye of the State Education Secretary, Dr. John Wicks, Jr.  Also working with us is first Vice President, Dr. Nathaniel Christian, Second Vice President, Rev. R.D. Wells, and Third Vice President, Rev. Eddie Alsworth. I am indeed grateful for their continued involvement in this effort.

It is the goal of this Congress to enhance the Christian educational skills of pastors, church leaders, and congregations, as a whole, within and without our State.

Once again, I strongly feel that the Church must take a leadership role in the education of our community.  Therefore, we must teach and educate our people and seriously take Hosea 4:6 to heart, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hath Rejected knowledge. I will also reject thee, that, thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hath forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget their children”.

The initiatives of this Congress are designed to encourage pastors and congregations to get involved in Christian education. It is important and essential that each of you take full advantage of all courses and/or seminars offered during the Fall, Spring, and Summer Sessions.

I want to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication. I know each member of this team will perform with a giving spirit and prove that success, as in marriage, is much more than finding the right person, it is being the right person. Indeed, this Leadership Team is both who you are and what you do. Have a blessed, productive, and enjoyable Congress.

Yours in Kingdom work,

Rev. Thomas Morris, Sr.
