About the Event

Congressman Thompson encourages your attendance and participation in the Redistricting hearings being held by the Mississippi State Legislature in your area.

Please see important talking points/comments below that we need to make a part of the record.

1. Mississippi does not need any redistricting; all redistricting should be held after the 2030 U.S. Census.

2. Mid-decade redistricting is a waste of money.

3. If the Mississippi Legislature chooses to redistrict next year, all Congressional Districts should remain the same.

4. Redistricting should not pit one incumbent against another.

5. Keep communities of interest together. Keep the MS Delta and Hinds County together.

6. All Historically Black PublicUniversities should remain in the 2nd Congressional District… Alcorn State University, Jackson State University and Mississippi Valley State University.

7. Ensure all current members of Congress home county (where they live) is kept in tack and not divided.

8. In Mississippi there is no difference between race and politics.

9. Congressional districts 1, 3, and 4 are gerrymandered to elect whites.  See map for percentage of whites in these districts.
